INHSU will be holding a session ‘ Supporting person-centred choice in determining treatment options for people with opioid dependence’ at the upcoming 5th European Harm Reduction Conference.

The conference is taking place from the 10th-12th November 2021, in Prague, Czechia. This year, the conference is being organised by Correlation European Harm Reduction Network in close collaboration with the Eurasian Harm Reduction Association and the Czech organisation Sananim.

The conference will present the latest harm reduction developments and innovative practices. It will discuss drug policy and its implications for people who use drugs and other marginalised groups. It intends to discuss different perspectives on harm reduction, social inclusion and related topics. The conference targets professionals from the community, professionals working in the broader area of harm reduction, policy-makers and politicians, advocacy representatives, researchers, and media representatives.

INSHU is excited to announce we will be leading a session on Thursday the 11th of November entitled ‘Supporting person-centred choice in determining treatment options for people with opioid dependence’.

The session, chaired by Perrine Roux (INSERM) and Mauro Guarinieri (INPUD), will focus on the impact that personal choice can have on drug treatment outcomes and discuss the benefits, concerns, and barriers to implementing different strategies for the treatment of opioid dependence.

Speakers will present a range of perspectives highlighting some of the important considerations around person-centred choice in determining treatment options and what might influence how treatments are delivered. Speakers for the session include Marc Auriacombe (University of Bordeaux), Judy Chang (INPUD), Barbara Broers (Geneva University Hospitals), Magdalena Harris (London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine) and Mat Southwell (EuroNPUD).
